Default Lindsay Park condo fire (Calgary)

I watched the news tonight and..

OH MY GAWD that fire was HUGE! $60 million worth of property destroyed, and 300 families homeless... they even enacted the Citywide Emergency Plan (whatever the hell that is). Asif, Dave, what is the Plan?

Seks: look at Mickey and you'll know which one I am.
I've never heard the "plan" called any particular name but it involves all 3 emergency services, the Fire Dept. Disaster Services, Red Cross, Amateur Radio guys, Calgary Transit, Environmental Protection people plus a few others that I've forgotten about.

Sounds like there were a lot of emergency personnel that needed treatment. Not you I hope...

Sounds like you'd lose a few pounds jsut to dehydration if you were fighting that fire. The picture on the front of the Herald is really powerful, if you ask me. A lone firefighter without a helmet spraying the fire. I tihnk he was like a Hall chief or something, I forget what the caption said

If you look carefully at that photo, that firefighter is not actually holding a nozzle. Look beyond him and you'll see 1 (there's probably 2) guys who are setting up and tending to a "ground monitor". This is a large nozzle that puts out way too much water and pressure for a person to hold so it sits on the ground and its own pressure keeps it there by way of little spikes that grab the ground. The fellow you see running is most likely another firefighter trying to get a better vantage point to direct the spray you see. He was running most likely from that distance, the fire was probably cooking his forehead. Chiefs do not generally leave their command vehicles. They conduct all their activities via radio traffic and remote cameras located throughout the scene.
