Default Hardtop Defroster Doesn't Work

My hardtop defroster just simply does not work. I believe it may be defective.

I have made sure it is plugged into the outlet behind the driver seat. When I turn on the defroster, it kicks in the defroster built into the soft top.

Is there anything that I can try?

There should be some kind of diverter circuit. When you plug in the HT, the power should get shunted to the HT. I wonder if the installer did not connect up the wiring harness from that plug (behind your head) to the stuff in the center console. You could remove that panel (with the two hooks on it) behind the driver's seat and trace that wire to see if it is connected to anything.

Yeah I ended up removing the panel behind the drivers seat. As far as I can tell, absolutely every wire in there is connected properly. I even downloaded the install instructions to follow along.

I think I'll remove the hardtop tomorrow since I have the day off, and just follow along all of the wiring. I have a feeling something isn't connected that I can't see

Pop the center console and check those harnesses. That's where those wires end up. Check the continuity of the heating wires in the glass. Use a multimeter set on "continuity" on the two leads of the plug. If there is a break in that wiring, this will tell you pretty quick. Then you can ask for another top.

Figured it out! I finally had time tonight (and my brother was here)... we removed the hardtop completely.

I removed the driver side door sill (with the metal S2000 emblem in it), the part that surrounds the gas door release, and the trim behind the seat where you would install a rear speaker. Low and behold, one of the connections was just kind of sitting "together" but not actually clipped into place.

Clipped that up, tossed everything back together, and she works now.

We also adjusted the hardtop ever so slightly, and it now fits better

Sometimes the simplest solution is the most obscure.

i have this problem....

mine's in the hardtop though...i gotta adjust the driver side post to sit lower - to trigger the wiring/relay.

the car's not "recognizing" the hardtop.

i can hit the "roof" button, and the softtop tries to close (windows roll down, soft top moves, etc.).

i hate cars....
