30 Million $ Coventry Hills Condo Fire.
In case anyone was curious ................
YEP, I was there. It never ceases to amaze me how such a beautiful, complicated structure like that can be turned into a gigantic mountain of rubble in such a short time.

I drove by it too, saw the fire from Edgemont very clearly coming down Shaganappi. Looks like the cause of the fire was the same as the Erlton condo fire... careless worker with a torch. What a shame.

Hey Dave,
I helped out on a traffic point for about 30 mins.....until 5 District got busy, and I headed back again. The magnitude of the fire was quite unlike anything I had seen before. Glad there were no fatalities or serious injuries!
Take care

Had to go back there at 2am this morning. The security guys spotted a "hot spot" right near the middle of the mountain of rubble. It was like walking in a pitch black war zone. Mud up to the knees and "man holes" everywhere.
The owners played up the value a bit to the press. 30 mil $ is the total cost of land, and all buildings. The actual insurance loss will be more like 7 million (plus cleanup).
On a funnier note. One of the guys on "fire watch" phoned me last night. He was walking (more like groping in the dark) along a cement wall and fell about 7 feet to the ground below and landed face first. Luckily, he landed in a pool of soft mud. But it's only funny till someone losses an eye.
