Default Yokohama AVS Sport

Does anyone have any experience with Yokohama AVS Sport tires in the rain? Are they better or worst then the stock S02s?

Don't know why you'd pick the Yokos over S-03s, but I'm sure they're "better" in the rain than the OEM S-02s, but markedly worse in the dry.

OEM S-02s rock.

I have no personal experience with them, but I recently heard from the BMW guys that the Yokos were outstanding in the rain when they were new, but after only a little bit of use they became terrible in the rain.

The general rain tire of preference still seems to be the S-03.

Are the AVS Sports related to the old AVS-i tires?

I still drive on a set of AVS-i. Great rain tire, I've gone through a set of S-03's before, and IMO they are just as good in the rain. I tracked on S-03's once, and they did pretty well. I AX-ed on the AVS-i's a couple of times, and I had a hard time with them.

If you can afford the S-03's go for those. If you don't drive all that hard, give the Yoko's a shot, I like my old AVS-i tires alot.

The AVS Sports are comparable to S-02s in the dry, somewhat worse in the rain.

That Tirerack test does not apply in this case.

The 16" S-02s that come with the S2000 are specially designed for the S2000 as a result of the partnership between Bridgestone and Honda.

The S-02s that are being tested by Tirerack are NOT the same tires.

OEM S-02s are the best dry street tires you can get for our car in stock trim. And in the rain, they're just fine. Just don't let them get too thin.

I realize that the OEM S-02s differ from off-the-shelf tires, but in the absence of evidence of significant differences in tire construction or tread compound between the OEM and retail versions of the tire, I'm skeptical about the Tire Rack test results being inapplicable.

I love it when peeps who say they'll ignore me just can't stay committed to the game.

All eyez on me.

And if you're skeptical about the inapplicability of the Tirerack tests, let's go ahead and ask Jim@Tirerack.com who's been a forum moderator for 3+ years the advice he's given the S2000 owners of this community in this matter for just as long.

This is the same Jim which insists the 18" OZ Superleggra's have "optimum" offsets for the S2000?

I'm only referring to Jim since someone here cited a Tirerack "study." But to his credit, he's made some strides.

Believe me, like you, I'm not big on Tireack and their so-called "experts."
