Default Windshield Chip Repair?

So, in the 4 months that I've lived here in Seattle, I've gotten 2 rock chips in the windshield of my 330i. 2nd one was last night, it's a bit bigger, maybe close to like a nickel in size. Didn't have any for the 7 years of driving in Chicago.

Anyways, I don't want it to spread or anything like that, and a friend said to look into getting it repaired. Found www.safelite.com and that seems to be pretty big, they have locations everywhere, and the online quote came to like just over $50.

Does anyone have experience with rock chip windshield repair? Recommend a place, or support Safelite?

Thanks for the input.

I went to the ones that are always in the Southcenter shopping mall (Westfield now) parking lot.

I think it was $35 bucks and they fixed it pretty good.

I can still see where it was but definitely have to concentrate to see it.

I've tried quite a few with my Wrangler and it's flat windshield. I use Novus now. Good chance your insurance company will foot the entire bill for chip repair. One of the first things I noticed when I moved here was all the cracked winshields.

Aren't those places all around the various mall parking lots?? I know there are always some at the Tacoma Mall ...

They even claim to be free and I think they are and just bill your insurance or something like that. Don't mark my words on that.

Welcome to the crap roads of the Pacific Northwest. They only get worse during the winter months.

I've used Novus a few times. Only $50. But insurance covered it.

Generally, insurance will wave the deductible and cover a 'repair' if the crack/chip is less than a dollar bill in size and not in the line of sight for the driver. Otherwise they want it replaced and you'll have to pony up the deductible.

The places that advertise "Free Chip Repair" actually bill your insurance company.

Or you can buy a chip repair kit for less than $10. I may try that next time.
