This is physically impossible. Below 5252 RPM, torque gain will ALWAYS be more than horsepower gain.

In the past the vafc with Adjustable fuel pressure regularor was my simple fix... I made good power with homemade intake/exhaust, and an ap1 exhaust cam in my ap2... I was making 226hp/164tq...

If I had read about the neo/vafc +pressure regulator approach before my upgrades, I might have gone that route, but I'm glad I didn't.

I did the Haltech and a gernby mid pipe - this may be the most costly route discussed here, but I wanted to set myself up for many more mods in the future - potentially FI as well.

Also, coming from a vintage car, I was accustomed to tuning and didn't want to give that up, even though I'm no pro, or mechanic.

The bottom line, however you do it, lowering the vtech and improving the mid range exhaust flow, tq, and hp absolutely transforms the car - it is so fantastic to feel and hear it just pull smooth and quick - no flat spot, no drone, no buzz, just quick rips up and down the tach - exactly as you would expect it to be!

I did get it to pass emissions with a tail pipe sniffer, but I had to work hard to get the cat up to temp!

Its a simple fuel and vtec piggy back controller that has a user interface so no computer needed. The downside is it cant add fuel on our car, only subtract it, which is 2/3rds of whats needed anyway, and the other 1/3rd in the mid range from the new lowered vtec can be enriched mechanically with an adjustable bolt in fpr. Its simple and effective for a bolt on N/A option. You want the last iteration of the vafc line up though with is called the Neo, simply because of the improved vtec control. The older vafc/vafc2 only controlled vtec based on rpm rather then rpm and throttle position both for retaining oem type control/performance. The others work, but its a bit annoying and waste of fuel to be cruising in vtec at 3500-4k rpm, which inevitably ends up happening if you want to get the full benefit of lowering vtec to the rpm where it picks up power. Alternatively you can raise it around 5k, which isn't ideal either.
