Jared, only downside to that is that now you're having to do some "official" tech inspections... which probably goes outside the realm of Time Attack.

Jared, you're making me dizzy (oh, that's just my bifocals reading that small font )
Did a little thinking on GTO/GTU cut-off and I think
GTO = 2200cc and larger
GTU = smaller than 2200cc
...... at first I thought 2000cc break point but that splits the AP1's and AP2's which isn't sporting and 1900cc feeds the S2000's to the wolves.
What engine displacement is that Atom running 1:06's or some crazy shit? 2.4?

Forgot the Ecotec was 2.2 and not 2.0.
Bleh... no perfect solution.

What is the specific desired outcome? I understand generally what we are looking for but it just occurrd to me that everyone may be solving a different problem. So far what I've heard was that we need more entries such as Miata drivers but they need to have a chance at winning. It seems that there is good competition in the 1:15-1:16 range.
Hard to find the perfect solution to an undefined problem.

You don't want to place limits on much more then tires and FI/displacement though. You cant go by power output becuase then everyone has to show up with a dyno sheet in their hand. Of course there is always the honor system Just my .02

Instead of running a bunch of what if's and look mainly ar cars that have come to the events so far. Of course there will be new people that may come and throw everything off, but I think that we are way over complicating things.
Let's say that we did go with a 4/6cyl FI/NA/street/r-comp class system.
That would put the top of the class in 4/6cyl NA street at about 1:14 with the top 20% running between 1:14 and 1:17
4/6 NA R-comp should have a winner running about 1:12-13 and the top pack Running within about 3-4 seconds of that.
4/6/FI/street would be won at about 1:10-11, and depending on who decided to run the class, it could be a fairly competitive top 5
4/6/FI/R would still have a bit of a range in the top 5, but hey, there is not much that can be done when the winner is running 1:06 and nodody outside of the top 3 is under 1:10.
Outside of the uber-class, the top 20% of each class should be within 3-4 seconds of each other where currently the gap would be about 8 seconds.
Its not a perfect system, and the same three people would prolly win each class every time, but atleast a podium finish would be within sight of the top 5 or 6 drivers.
I would also support a system based on either an scca autocross rules, s2k challenge, miata challenge, or other points based setup. The biggest problems with that is that people would have to show up knowing what their point number is. It they didn't tech would take forever, and the entire event would fall behind. Second, the point system only works when the car that you start with are even. You could put the same number of points in and s2k and a wrx, and chances are that the s2k will be faster around the track... By quite a bit.
