Ron Geren, an actor in Los Angeles, commutes to auditions and jobs throughout Southern California in a sleek black Mazda MX-5 Miata convertible. But for a recent date with a woman, he rented a Cadillac Escalade because he was so used to friends saying his Miata is "gay."
"Guys say, 'Hey, that's cute,' " Geren, 40, said, adding that the comments come from gay as well as straight men. "You have to fend off that perception."

When I worked in television news... we were doing a similar story and it caused a lot of chatter about the subject in the office. At the TV station where we had a large population of gender benders nearly every gay dude drove a Subaru and every lesbian drove a Jeep. I think some non-gay Subaru and Jeep drivers started trading in their vehicles after we did that story.
One of my local buddies drives a Subaru and his wife drives a Jeep. Odd enough, he's a stay at home dad and his wife brings home the bacon.
Recently I got in touch with my feminine side. The butch dyke in me said to buy the Harley F-150 4x4. :loudandproud:

No.
There was a belief for many years that if someone drove a Subaru they were gay especially after "Martina Navratilova was their spokesperson for awhile, but I think that started to change when the WRX and STi(I) became available.
