Default SLR help ? !

I am looking in to buying a SLR. I have been looking around at Nikon's, Canon's, Sony's ; I don't have a clue to what is better than the other. They all seem to have little quality's that are a lil' different.

I know a bunch of you have them... Kalvin, Jason, Matt, Jeff, Nancy..... I would love to hear what you guy have and what you think about them. I'm pretty sure I have used most all of your cameras.

I really liked Jason's but I'm pretty sure his camera was an arm and a leg to buy and I'm not looking for a crazy camera. I really like the fact that I could capture the light as it was with out having to use flash in the evening.

What lower end camera can I get away with? Are the lower end SLRs capable of slower shutter speeds and what not, to obtain " the moment" pictures?

Thanks guys

-ALY

Doh! I was hoping, for a second, that you were going to buy one of these:

I was about to volunteer to help you drive it.

Good point. Lenses are often more expensive than the camera.

technically the camera is my momma's but it's really Drew's. I can't even borrow that Camera..... They think I will lose it or brake it or something.

Plus here in a few months I will be in California soooo... it won't really matter
