Do any of you use your S2K as a daily driver in Washington? If so do you run stock tires or all seasons?

 

I'm in D.C. area and I've used my S for daily driven. I started with factory wheels for a month or 2 then switched to 18"s

 

 

Great car in the winter, but if you get ANY snow at all, you need snow tires. The S02's are bad even on bare, cold pavement.

 

Mine's a daily driver using stock tires (the new Bridgerock's for the '04's which are *slightly* better all weathers than the '00-'03 S02's). Plan to replace the stock tires with a more performance oriented tire as soon as I can justify it (since I have other toys to spend money on first).

When it snows we use our 4x4 tow pig to get around, otherwise mine is driven every day.

When I bought my car I was definitely not going to use it as a daily driver. I was going to use my 12-yr-old CRX for that. But guess what? The CRX just isn't as much fun to drive, and most of my driving is "daily driver" usage, so....

I only drive my CRX when I need the cargo room, when it snows, or when I'm going climbing and plan to park it at a trailhead.

The 2004 S2000 does not come with S02's (remember it has 17's rather than 16's, and they changed the tire). That's what I was comparing in my response - what they stuck on the 2004 was a better all weather tire (RE050) but it feels like a tire fit for a Civic or Accord for those of us who like the top-of-the-line performance tire. I liked the S02's on my 2000, 2001 and 2002 model cars...

A better performance street tire than a S02 would be either a Falken Azenis or Kumho MX. An easy way to see what the best street tire is at any point in time is to check out the SCCA Solo II STS class results... they're stuck using a tire with a 140 or higher treadwear rating, and most of them will spend whatever it takes to get the best street tire out there.

For a DOT R compound Kumho has stepped up with the 710, but it's not available yet in anything that will fit my car

Nice to see you here. So I am getting my tax return and instead of buying springs and shocks I need to invest in new tires. The stock ones are great for dry weather driving but I need to get ones that make me feel a little safer in the elements. Have any suggestions? Since I drive like a wuss, as I have been told, and admit that I do, I just need tires that will keep me safe, do well in the rain, and last.

let me look into it - there are probably a couple of good options for you but I'm not sure which come in S2K sizes... I'll get back with ya!

 

Not sure if I believe that the Kumho MXs are a better performing street tire in the dry than the OEM S-02s. More comparable to S-03s based largely on the community feedback here on s2ki.com. And a large part of the reason why they like Kumhos is the $$$$ factor. S-03s ain't cheap. The MX 3rd grade cursive sidewalls are very very stoopid.

And I think we're splitting hairs here. Katherine, just go with S-03s and call it a day. Or better yet just stick with what came with your '04. They should be plenty safe.

More than the tire itself, get yourself to a driving school. I need it baaad.
