Dude.... have you ever felt the FIA pad? We wailed on it with a Snap-on compound hammer (From my implements of destruction collection), and it didn't even budge the stuff. It feels like plastic covered iron.

You got it Brad.
Unfortunately, I'm on the fast track with getting a s2k, but Mrs. pepperoni has a little more patience than I do. I just put our Miata up for sale, so hopefully it'll sell pretty quick.
We'll be at PIR this Friday for test-n-tune, and all weekend for the Dornbecher races. If you can't make it out, we'll connect at one of the GTG's once I actually own one and stop feeling foolish for posting in here. I've been doing a ton of research and I know a whole lot more about s2k's than I used to, and I think we'll end up with a 2004+ model. That's if I have anything to say about it..
On the padding.. yeah, it's supposed to be hard. The foam *pipe insulation* stuff is only good for low energy impacts. If your head hit that stuff with any significant velocity, the foam compresses so much that your skull essentially contacts the bar. The high deisity stuff will compress at a lower rate. I'm sure it's not gonna feel good either way, but overall, the high density stuff is safer.
PS. I have both kinds of padding in my race car. The high density stuff is around my head.
