Recommended shops that work on Jeeps

However, the engine should be just about bulletproof and it little need of anything outside of regular oil changes. The other "weak link" that I'm guessing your Cherokee has is the rear axles. The c-clips are known to occasionally break and the axle shafts (and attached wheel and tire) can walk right out of the axle tube...fun stuff. Happened to me turning from Lake Street left onto Central in Kirkland once...
The tranny's are reasonably strong and, assuming the driveline isn't modified significantly, you shouldn't encounter any real problems.
You're the second person I know that's picked up a Cherokee in the last couple months. It should treat you pretty well. Just remember, it's a Jeep...beat it up a little bit and it'll like you more...

The running gear is pretty solid, but if reliability includes construction quality and/or refinement, Jeeps are total POS cars...

I love the straight six. I rolled my old Wrangler and all I had to do was flip it back over, pull the plugs, turn the key to spit out the crap in the cylinders and let it dry out. Then just stuck the plugs back in and it drove like a champ.
