We will be meeting at 8:45 am, departing at 9 am on Sat (9/14) morning. We should arrive at Windy Ridge at @ 11 am and will be meeting with some of the Seattle gang.

Since people are coming from all directions, I propose that we meet at the Union 76 at Delta Park off I-5 (same exit as PIR). From there we will go up I-5 to Battle Ground, take the 503 to Cougar, and then proceed up to the Windy Ridge Lookout. THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE DRIVE. We may need to gas up at Cougar/Yandle to make sure that we can get to and from the lookout safely. On a motorcycle you can't make it without gassing up there; I am not sure what the range for our cars is with spirited driving??

On the way up to the lookout, we will pretty much just cruise up to the lookout in an effort to beat traffic, on the way back we can go at different paces for those who want to stop and take pictures, etc. There is some beautiful scenery throughout this drive (Excluding Vantucky, I mean Vancouver).

We should be back into town early in the afternoon and have plenty of time to go home, and get ready for Eric's BBQ. If you have a spouse, significant other, or anyone who would appreciate the scenery you should bring them, this is a very pretty drive. As some of you know this drive ate one of my motorcycles last year, so while I am going to drive spirited I am no going to drive possessed. Additionally, this is a Forest Pass?? area, so if you have one bring it otherwise the Rangers at the lookout will hit you up for $5-$7 for a daily pass.

This is the tentative plan, any suggestions will be appreciated. Bring you FRS Radio if you have them, they worked great for everyone except Luke.

Also, could those who plan on attending please post, so we have a headcount. Similar to the last drive, all who would like to attend are invited, no matter what they drive.

OK, Seattle folks, several plans to choose from...

Option 1)

Depart Billy McHales (at Factoria) at 7am.
Head down I-405 to SR-169 south to Enumclaw.
Then we take 410 and 123 around Rainier
ending up on 12 and stopping in Randle.
In Randle, we take 39 south which becomes FR-25 (paved)
We then head west on FR-99 to Windy Ridge (paved)

According to MapPoint, we should get there at 11am.

From there we head to Portland and arrive 3-ish.

Other alternatives for us is to nix St. Helens or Rainier and save some time.

Option 2)

If we nix Mt. Rainier we can get to Windy Ridge by 10:20am. (or leave SEA an hour later)

Option 3)

If we nix St. Helens, we can leave at 9am, go around Rainier and get to Randle by Noon and then into Portland by 3pm.

Votes please.

Two things, James. First, I'll take you up on the offer of the passenger seat. Second, I don't really care what option we take but we need to factor in the time for you and I to link up someplace...

Option 1.

I'm up for the long haul.

Do we then backtrack north on FR-99 and take FR-25 south to 503 west and then to I-5?

Long haul sounds good to me, but I'm not driving. I'm willing to sit in the car for as long a distance as James is willing to drive...

I'm also looking forward to meeting some of the Portland gang at the BBQ...even if Eric is the host...
