Paint Hookups
Hey guys, I have a 2nd trunk lid that I want to get painted GPW (currently pearl white) for a cheap price. I've checked around at body shops and the quotes are coming in more than I want to spend. Anyone do any painting on the side? It's a 2nd trunk lid so it doesn't have to be perfect paint...
integrapunk67, you still paint? Anyone else know anyone?

I would rattle can it myself. If you are good with one and then clear it of course. You wont know the difference. Problem is most people don’t seem to know how to rattle can very well. If you save it for a tech day I wouldn’t mind taking that on for you. Need a clean environment though.
Sherwin Williams can mix any factory or custom paint code you have and put it in a rattle can, then you just need to buy a rattle can of clear.
A trunk would be really easy to paint because its just a flat board. Easy to make even paint strokes

White is one of the easiest colors to paint and match. If I were you, I'd do as they suggested above and rattle can it. This summer I rattle canned the mirrors and side skirts on my m3.
I bought the cans for 12 bucks a piece if I remember correctly, from a local paint store. I would say the match is damn near perfect, especially considering it came out of a can.
If you do decide this. This is my tip to you.
Scuff up the old paint so the new paint has something to stock to. I used a scrotch bright green paid.
Make sure you clean the trunk lid extremely well. Anything you miss will show in the paint (though, white hides everything really well).
Do 3 even coats about 5 minutes apart and ONLY 3. Even if you see little flaws once the paint has dried, just leave it, painting over it will result in the product turning out like shit, so don't even try to touch it up.
If you look at my car below, you can't really see a difference in my mirror/side skirts from the rest of the car.

Thanks for the suggestions guys and advice DumpedS2K...maybe I'll take a shot at rattle canning it. Looks like I'm signing up for tech day, Spets.
