The missus and I went to see it today. Funny and moving at the same time.

Deserving of the hype - could be a great way to finally win Eastwood an Oscar as an actor.

I saw it too, great acting indeed. Eastwood does a phenominal job, his character is someone you love and hate at the same time.

Will he be eligible for an award this year or is it to late and he has to wait until next year's Oscars?

According to IMDB, the movie had a Dec 2008 USA release (in limited theaters). That means it's eligible for the Oscars this year. (I guess they are the 2009 Oscars, even though they cover movies from 2008?)
