This is a topic that comes up every once in a while. Anyone paid to have this done? Has anyone talked to a honda rep or someone in the company that knows anything about why it's a recall in europe, why the bolts were changed in the first place, and why no recall here? I have followed the exploding engine threads...good stuff!!

So anyone in the OR/WA area had the 00/01/02 (early model year) bolts replaced with the new 4 squirtter ones? I am thinking about buying the parts off the internet and having Beaverton Honda install them. Any estimates on labor?

I have the parts but haven't install them yet....
I talked with Bellevue honda about getting it install but, they gave me a run around so, decided to do it myself... Anyway, I remember some member saying it would be like 3hr job so times that by $75-85 hr. You get the idea.

I thought about having this done too, but decided against it. As I understand, the new bolts are to correct a cooling deficiency. The lack of cooling only becomes a problem when the engine is under high stress for extended periods of time ... like blasting down the autobahn at 120 for an hour. Those situations rarely occur in the US, so it's in Honda financial best interest to not do the recall in the US.

Since I track the car, I'd like to get the bolt fix done, but I don't know that it's worth the expense. And I do have the extended warranty, so if it's going to fail, it'll probably fail before my warranty is up. Besides, there's always a chance that they'll screw something else up when doing the bolts.

If you look into it and find out what the labor charge is, let us know.

I had the bolts installed by my Honda dealer, that way I could recover the install cost should Honda eventually TSB the bolts. The engine smoothed out at all rpm ranges. I also had the Mugen baffled oil pan installed at the same time. Don't have the receipt handy. I would do it again.
