I'm getting hestitation in VTEC right now so time to give this a try!
If you show no symptons, just keep on driving. No worries.

so what exactly does this mean? Are some s2k's out there not entering "Vtec" consistently? I'm pretty dead on that I'm NOT a victim of this manufacturer problem. However, to avoid possible future occurences, is it wise to have the dealer check it out nonetheless for pre-cautionary's sake?

It means nothing if you're not experiencing any problems is what it means.
I've logged some 60K+ miles over 2 S2000s and this is the first time I'm seeing some of the issues so you may or may not run into it for a while.
What happens is, when I punch the throttle into VTEC range (6-9K for the lucky folks), the engine doesn't pull cleanly to redline. Instead, it kinda hesitates as if the computer is going light on throttle, off/on action, but doing it quicker than any human can do.
So it's either working or not working. Hence, nothing to be precautionary about or anything the dealer will act on.
But I do know you're one of the most anal-retentive, nervous kids I've had the fortune of meeting so if you really want, spend the $50 to get the MAP sensor replaced and fitted with the fancy Honda zip tie.
Good luck,

Got the part today. It's this plastic cover thing that wraps around the MAP sensor with a zip tie. must've cost Honda a decent amount to get this customized and tested.
new MAP sensor as well with a little rubber gasket to replace the old one already on the car. getting it installed at bellevue honda this weekend.
in the meantime, i did the love tap thing to the existing MAP and no VTEC issues. but want a more permanent solution and dont' want to run into this thing again. more for peace of mind than anything else because i too am anal-retentive about my car's rate of dependability.
cheers,
