Default my car was hit

hello, my car was hit yersterday when it was parked, and when i got home i saw the damage and there was a police card left on my windshield with case#. so i went to police station to get a copy of the police report, and they are telling me to wait 5business day to have my copy, and i don't even know if this case is hit and run or if the person who hit my car called the police and made a case. so do i have to just wait until i get the police report or is there anyway that i can find out briefly what happened?? any help will be greatly appreciated.

Call up your insurance and give them the case number when making a claim. They should be able to find it if you don't want to wait.

i think either 1. person who hit your car reported it 2. a witness reported it.

at my business i have to report break ins and have cop come down and file a report and they will leave their business card with case # on it.

Yup.

And if your insurance company works like mine does, you need to do this in order for it to be treated as a hit and run. Otherwise it gets treated as a "collision."

Sorry to hear this happen to you... at least you didn't wake up with a big dent on your driver door and a baseball sized rock next to it. Yes it was me.
