Motorcycle recommendation
I know that more than a few of you are also motorcycle enthusiasts, so perhaps you can help me out. I am looking into buying a motorcycle in the next 6 months, but I have no idea what to look for. Since I haven't ridden before, I am definitely going for used and inexpensive. I am also very tall, though, so I guess I'll probably need a bigger bike. Also, I don't know which would be better to start with, a sport bike or a cruiser type.
Suggestions?
Of course, if anyone has a spare bike for me to try out, that would be great, too

Before buying the bike, I'd check out the backlog for the endorsement tests. Me thinks the wait is in excess of 6 months if you signed up today. You may be able to test for an endorsement earlier if it is a sub-250cc bike but I doubt that is the kind of ride you are looking for.

Thanks for the info... I certainly didn't consider that getting the endorsement would be a problem. After doing some research, it appears there are third party training classes that, upon completion, waive the need to do the testing with the state DOL. Also, it seems you can pay the full price, rather than the state subsidized rate, and get bumped up on the list. If it takes a year, I'm not too concerned... I don't have $5000 burning a hole in my pocket... yet

My advice is to sign up for one of the MSC courses run through the Evergreen Safety Council (http://www.esc.org/cycle.html). Typically the classes are easier to get into during the winter since the weather sucks, so you might very well be able to get into a subsidized course with little trouble. I took it exactly a year ago and it was a great experience.
Once you pass the class (all but 1 person in our class passed) you are eligible to get your license for any class of motorcycle without having to take the state test. Just pay the fee at the DOL and get your endorsement.
