kinda OT: getting gas in oregon - the car kind not the refried bean kind
i just drove home to my hometown of vacaville california, in the chevy not the s, and stopped for gas in Oregon. Iam sure you're all aware that you don't pump your own gas in oregon, they pump it for you. anybody know why? environmental? safety? and are you supposed to tip the guy who does it?

What I've always been told: Originally done to keep people from pumping cheaper leaded gas into unleaded autos. Now that leaded gas is a none issue, they still do it to keep more people employed in Oregon.
No tip required. Then again I'm cheap.

Yup...people at gas stations usually are morons....so I go to the same one everytime so the people there know me and they are carfull. And the reason for the gas attendants is like everyone else said... we are cheap and lazy oregonians

Yeah, Oregon needs self survice gas stations. Those attendants don't get to you until 10 minutes after of setting the car in park (I'm exgerating of course). I'm a pretty patient guy, but man the service is slow.
It's also probably why Oregon has one of the most expensive gasoline prices.

When driving from Seattle to racetracks in California, a little planning and slightly conservative driving will allow you to get through the entire state of Oregon with only one stop for gas.
Unless you have a supercharger, Jerry's appetite, or Ray's bladder.
