Has the S2000 made you into a sports car snob?
Got this sucker out of college back in 2001.
Put about 70K miles into the F20C.
Over the 4 years of ownership and 2 S2000s later, I'm looking for the next car that just makes me smile everytime I get behind the wheel.
I find all the AWD offerings like your STI and Evo to be no doubt respectable, but falls short in the looks/image department. I find the 350Z to be utterly ugly and all too common. S2000 still rules in the $30K-$40K Japanese car value range.
Now, the only true cars I am attracted to are modified AMG Benzes, modified 911s, modified BMWs, etc. All cars very different from the niche Honda roadster and I'm thinking it's because I'm just not convinced and haven't been convinced via test drives, showroom floor visits, etc... that many imports both from Europe and Japan make me happier than the little might that is the S2000.
Everything is a sacrifice. Nothing is a clear winner any longer. Life has gotten more complicated as I climb my 20s. Before the S2000 I was driving a '99 Civic EX. S2000 is a clear winner in all departments. I remember visiting the Kirkland Honda showroom laying eyes on the first S2000 I've ever seen. Silverstone/black. Roped off. Microsoft guy picking it up with his name written in black on a piece of cardboard paper stuck on the windshield. I was mesmerized. No car will ever make me feel like that ever again. And what's crazy was that this car was... bone stock. I can't stand stock S2000s now.
So what is the next clear winner? The only car I know would be "clear" winners easily clear $80K + $10-20K in aftermarket body, wheel, suspension, exhaust mods I must go through in order to make me say whoa.
So overall, I'm 95% satisifed my S2000 modded like it is today. But that 5% always keeps me looking out for the next car that will keep me happy/content for the next 4-5 years that also won't break the opportunity bank for the same period and beyond.
Tough life?

i went from an '96 accord ex to s2000... so i feel ya. s2000 is superior in every way (except space, something that i found unnecessary). i'm hoping the cayman s will be a similar upgrade.
more power, better handling (hopefully), more room (slightly), and at a starting price of $58k (hopefully $65k loaded) expensive, but affordable.

The S2000 has certianly helped me appreciate the drop top. I never considered owning one until Jer gave me a ride in his car. Now I won't go back to anything else.
Except for my Bronco, which is kind of a convertible... Just can't drop it down at the stoplights.
