Default Greater Seattle area job market

I am hoping to move to the Seattle area this year and I am trying to get a sense of what the job market is like. I've been working tech support at a university in the midwest for over 6 years. The job market has been terrible here since 2000 or so - simply not a lot of new jobs. Even though I see a lot of support job openings posted online I'm worried that there is much more competition for this sort of job in the Seattle area.

Anyone have any thoughts or tips?

seattle has a lot of people who know their tech stuff.
high competition, but that drives up wages too i presume.
It all depends what kind of tech support you're doing tho. If its call center stuff, then thats all going overseas. If its network admin or IT helpdesk stuff, then there shouldnt be too much trouble finding a job around here in my opinion.

why are u moving to seattle btw?

I spent a long time working at the helpdesk, but currently I'm supporting and designing installed technology in classrooms (mostly presentation systems). I really prefer what I'm doing now and I'd like to continue working in higher ed. but there are far fewer positions in classroom tech than general helpdesk, so I figure that's where I'm likely to end up (again).

I'm moving to Seattle because I like rain, I'm sick of the midwest (and its winters), I'm not that worried about crime or traffic, I don't smoke anymore, hippies are just more to make fun of, and I've reached a point in my life where I can go anywhere I want and Seattle is where I want to start. After a few years, I may head north to Vancouver, or south to Portland or somewhere in California, and after that somewhere fun and different like Australia.

You'll still have to deal with VTECMOM though.

Where in the midwest are you?

South Bend, Indiana

What the heck is 'VTECMOM'? Is that some sort of Honda-branded STD? (It burns more if you're moving faster!)
