Default Free Curbside Used Motor Oil Recycling

I just saw that Waste Management will pick up 2 gallons of used motor oil / week to recycle, from your curbside pickup location. I've been lugging my old oil to the auto parts store to recycle but this sounds like a way more convenient way for me to dispose of old oil properly and I thought you guys might be interested too. Please verify that your area offers this service before putting milk jugs full of old oil on the curb though

Curbside Motor Oil Collection:

Motor oil is a serious environmental hazard if not properly collected and recycled.

  • Put motor oil in 1-gallon milk jugs with screw-on lids.
  • Label with name and address.
  • Put 2 feet from recycling cart.
  • Limit 2 gallons per collection (Unless otherwise indicated).
We accept only uncontaminated used motor oil.

thres a big note that if its "contaminated" it will be returned to you to dispose of as hazardous waste.

i wonder what counts as contaminated? i clean out my drain pan every now and then and just pour it into the jug.

oil is considered "contaminated" basically when mixed with any other fluids from your car. be it water, Coolant, Brake fluid, Fuel, etc. etc. usually a good rule of thumb is that if you can see a separation of fluids it's definitely contaminated lol.
