Default emissions test suprise

So I went and got my 03 emissions tested. And to my suprise. No sniffer? Just obd plug? Is that standard now. The guy said it was because they had a few cars jump off the dyno. Is that right? Haha I passed emissions with a test pipe. I was just going to see what the car would read with a test pipe before I put my cat back on.

Obd II does the emissions check via the access port. Sniffers are for obd I systems only. Any car after 2009 doesn't need to do emissions at all.

I witnessed one of those cars "jump" off of the dyno. The employee forgot to put the car in park when she was done with the test, then got out to check the computer with the car still in gear, the car got sideways on the dyno, but she was able to run and jump into the car hitting the brakes before it's tire caught traction on the pavement.

Because they don't know any better. Usually from out of state where inspections are required. As long as you have an extended bung on your TP and it works, not tripping a cel, then your golden.

I just got my '00 tested here in Vancouver, and I was a little surprised they didn't use a sniffer too. All they did was plug in the scanner and said congratulations, you passed.

1995 is the cut off year for sniffing cars.

Management with an ODBII compliant emissions system is the cut-off. For most vehicles that would be the 1997 model year.
