Default Daily driver suggestions

Hey guys,

I've been using my s2k as my daily driver for the last year and a half and put about 30k miles on it. I love the car, but I'd like to get something else to use as my daily driver since driving my s in stop and go traffic on the eastside seems like such a waste. My plan would be to keep the s2k for a weekend cruiser, and have something else to drive to work.

My "want list" for the DD would be (in order of importance):
1) comfortable
2) economical
3) reliable
4) practical (possibly a hatchback or wagon)
5) under about $25k or so (little wiggle room here for the right car)
6) not completely devoid of any driving enthusiasm whatsoever

I've been looking at WRX's as I live in Talus in Issy (bigass hill) so the awd would be great in winter, but I've also been considering GTI's as I've never owned anything German. My parents had a vw when I was younger that was terrible (diesel beetle), so I've a bit nervous to go that route though.

So seeing as how a lot of folks use their s2000's as a secondary car I thought I'd check in with you and see what you use for your daily and get your suggestions. They'd be much appreciated.

Cheers!

We have a Audi B7 A4 Avant Quattro, no issues, great for traffic, and nice for long road trips. Plus they are like tanks in the snow.

I am an Audi fan. Prior to acquiring the ultimate DD (free company car ) my daily was a B6 S4.

Not exactly economical but totally worth it.

Would not get a BRZ for all season driving. Same car type as S2000. An AWD Subie sounds like the best bet.

Not one of Ceakoth's requirements. I think the only season the BRZ/FRS cant be driven in is Hurricane season.
For the record, I'm not a BRZ/FRS fanboi.

My daily is 07 ford focus hatchback, I got it for 2500 with 60k miles, super cheap, very reliable, and I get 35 mpg. Plus it makes the s2k feel so much better when I take it out on the weekends

$2500? That's crazy! Not a huge fan of the focus, but that'd be hard to pass up! As for the bra, they look like fun cars but I don't really think that would really be much different than my s. Have any of you guys driven the new impreza? (not the wrx) it seems like a decent way to go, awd, leather (with the limited), and 35mpg for 22 grand. Curious if the new ones feel sluggish with the smaller engine now though.

Thanks for the input guys!

This would be a little above your intended budget, but the Golf 7 and next generation of WRX should both be coming out within a year or so (Golf 7 has already been released in Europe). There will likely be a boost in power for the GTI and TDI (with perhaps even a GTD model).

As to the next generation of WRX, there are still a lot of questions to be answered as Subaru has been very secretive, including what the body design will look like. However, it has long been rumored that it will downsize from the current 2.5 liter to a 2.0, while maintaining a decent amount of power (perhaps around 260-280 hp),and improving fuel economy.

Both these cars are supposed to end up being lighter weight and more fuel efficient, yet both will likely receive a slight boost in power.
