You can borrow the lawn chair (or was it a milk crate) out of Russ's '65 Vette

you guys crack me up

I'm not sure if that would help actually I think that since the ball is rolling that we should most probably just go with the flow for now.

Plus I read some other suzuka blue owner's horror story on how it took 3 months for the rebuild company to source blue seats

So they aren't going to cover the stereo, detector or seat heaters? That makes sense, they usually won't unless it happened off of your own property. You need to contact whoever carries your home owners or renters insurance to get that stuff covered.

However, I do know of someone that had their truck broken into and lost their wallet and a thumb drive. Their insurance company, Progressive, replaced the thumb drive and paid them for a new wallet.

I don't know... a lot of companies cover car contents and accessories up to a certain dollar limit.

the exact same thing happened to me 2 years ago.
top cut open, and seats were taken. i just repaired the top instead of getting a new one... and got a hardtop instead...

i guess i'll keep in touch with kelvin thru this process..

i'm suspecting Car Toys.....

There was a case like that with Car Toys a few years ago wasn't there? They'd do an install and then break into the car later.

the opportunity cost of brand spanking new seats at $7000+ is not really worth it to me as Rob told me on the phone you can get some pretty nice aftermarket seats at that price.

My car inssurance is not going to cover the stereo, radar detector, or the seat heaters from the sound of things.
True, the seats are over-priced by quite a bit. OTOH, you can see why it is reasonable to at least wonder about insurance fraud, especially since the incident happened in your own garage. Any insurance company who didn't at least put an investigator onto the case and check it out would be stupid.

Most car insurance does not cover things that are not permanently installed in the car (like the radar detector). Generally your homeowners or renter's insurance has to cover that.

Things that are permanently installed in the car (like the seat heaters and a stereo system) are covered by the car insurance, but lately some insurance companies have been adding language that says they will not cover replacement value for any mods. Actually, this makes sense -- you are paying partially based on the value of the car. If you have installed a bunch of mods that make the car worth twice as much, you are now paying an artificially low premium.

In fact, if you have a heavily modded car it might even be better to just insure it with an agreed-value policy.

The general rule, as always, is twofold: 1) READ YOUR POLICY!, and 2) you don't get something for nothing -- discount insurance carriers (especially Progressive and Geico) provide really bad service to their customers a lot of the time.

I guess I don't understand the opportunity cost since your cost is the deductable either way. Being that you're going to get the value of the seats in either new seats or cash, it's not going to have any impact on insurance premiums. I'm sure that insurance companies hate the precident that paying out cash to policy holders sets.

Either way, I hope your car is doing well and almost back on the road
