$500k for a house or condo; where would you?
Hello all,
I've only lived here for about 4 years now, for which reason I beg your opinion before I invest any money in real estate.
If you were given $500k to buy a house or a condominum, where would you invest your money in? New Castle? Kirkland? Shoreline? or Seattle?
I'll be starting law school in the fall, so it needs to be somewhat within a commutable distance from Seattle... I'm going to keep on researching but I though I would get some inputs in the meantime from the locals...!
Thanks
KS

i'd buy a house, but you're going to need to pony up some more for an easy commute to Seattle. and even then it'll still be a fixer upper type olderish home.
condo, u have a bit more range and can hit up seattle downtown area. you'd end up with a nice one bedroom around 800-1000 sq ft.
i'd only live near or around downtown kirkland on the eastside or seattle downtown area all the way. everywhere else is just too fuqin far.
the best advice i can give you is: don't post up on a car internet forum to get advice on real estate. get a good agent that you can trust. i know a guy who gives out sound advice, but don't wanna refer just anyone to him.
peace,

I live in Newcastle and highly recommend the commute. It's easy to get to Bellevue and to Seattle. You can find houses that are 10-20 years old in Newcastle for what you want to pay. I would go with Newcastle or Kirkland, but that's me.
If you want to know the name of a good real estate agent, please PM me.

RT hit the nail on the head. You have to decide how big of a house you want, how new of a house you want, how much of a commute you are willing to accept, and how long you plan to stay in the house. You might (or might not) also be interested in school districts, tax districts, acreage, etc.
Nobody can honestly tell you "buy in Newcastle" or some such thing without knowing the details.
