this weekend there is also some drag racing going on west of Alymer in the Quebec side. One of my customers has a 1990 Mustang that's rated at 1240 HP. He told me today he runs mid 7's in a quarter mile. I think if he's running I may go check it out. I know drag racing is the hick side of racing but it's still amusing

Yes it is only classic cars, but still cool to look at!

I'm in. Sounds like it could be a fun ride with some hiking.

my idea of a nice Adirondack ride that hits several twisties:

1. down through Cornwall via whatever route you choose (probably bank street down through ontario to cornwall)

2. South on 37C, 55, to Nicholville

3. east on NY 14 all the way to where it ends

4. south on old route 99 (pavement a bit rough in spots, but good smooth twisties near loon lake)

5. back roads (paved) through alder brook/ franklin falls

6. 18A past whiteface mountain (we could even go up there with the cars if we wanted to pay the $$$ - road is paved)

7. south via various backroads (need to avoid Lake Placid Ironman) to Keene

8. RT 73 south to the famous tracy road (rt 6). East on rt 6

9. south briefly and then back west on rt 4 (even better twisty road)

10. back west on NY 2 to 28N (short section of twisties along here, too)

11. 28N to long lake, then up north to tupper lake on rt30 (not twisty, this part)

12. rt 3 west to rt 56, then take rt 56/68 north to canton (reasonably semi-twisty road)

13. canton to ogdensburg on rt 68. cross into canada

14. 416 back to ottawa.

Some potential short mountains to hike somewhere in the middle of this:

1) Catamount mountain (http://www.alavigne.net/newHomePage/...2004/index.jsp)

2) Noonmark mountain
http://www.alavigne.net/newHomePage/Outdoo...n2004/index.jsp

3) Hurricane mountain
http://www.alavigne.net/newHomePage/Outdoo...k2002/index.jsp

4) Ampersand mountain
http://www.alavigne.net/newHomePage/Outdoo...t2001/index.jsp

This route that I've given is only one possible way to go, and I know others that hit different twisties - this is only presented as an example.

I would like to pick a day that has good weather, of course - but we can't know about that in advance, so if everyone is willing, we could play it by ear and pick whatever day next weekend that looks best when we get a bit closer.

Thoughts?

...Andrew

Well I guess a one day thing will be the easiest to get a group together. People should throw out their prefered days.

I'll throw up an "official" thread note sticky next week to track people and organization details, rain dates, etc.

Just read this thread, gropos really knows his way around NY! He Knows names and Route numbers I don't even know (rt. 6-Tracy Rd. & Rt 4). Would love to meet up with all of you, location will depend on the route you choose, however I'll be in Western NY the weekend of July 31, Aug 1 visiting family. If for some reason you do a differant time, or your next trip, I'll try and make it. Have a great ride...hope you all have the best of weather. Levi
