Street racing law: fair or unfair
Guys, as I'm sure most of you think the street racing law is unfair, if you have a minute go to the Toronto CTV website, scroll down to Talkback Toronto, and vote on the poll.
remember, if you think it's unfair that is a NO

For the most part, traveling faster than the speed limit is not worth it. Even on the 400 series highways, if you can maintain a 120 km/h average (you have to travel quite a bit faster than that for the majority of your trip) you are only saving very minimal time.
And think about it, is it really worth saving the 1/2 hour? Even if there is no one around... there are still reasons to keep the speed down (read: deer, turtles etc...)
I'm not going to sit here and say that over policing is right either. But when things get out of control, their options are limited. And to think, even after the new law has been implemented they still catch LOTS of people. I like to think that if these people can't be concerned enough for their own well being, how much do they really care about everyone else's?
One of the things I learned very early on because of my start on motorcycles, is that on the street, it dosent matter how good a driver you are. The hazards on the road, mostly other, less apt drivers, are reason enough to keep to the limits.
I realize that i am probably ranting here, but even in Alberta where the limits on twined highways are 110 Km/h, people still travel 50+
How much extra stopping distance is required for an extra 50km/h? I bet its SUBSTANCIALY more than we would guess, at first though.
ok, I'm done.
p.s. I still speed :$ sometimes...

do like they do in the states. 70 or 75 mph outside out built-up areas, 55 in areas with significant on & off ramps. not that i want to do 90 kms, but it's a fair and reasonable trade off.
in the built up areas, you will find that most collisions are multi-vehicle. in the other areas you will find mostly single vehicle collisions, multiples when severe weather is a factor.

I'm right there with Hapa, no tolerance for street racing whatsoever. Driving is a privilege, not a right. Way too many people take it for granted.
One thing I told my kids when they started driving,
