Default Private insurance rates in Ontario

Just wanted to ask you guys. I still have my yellow guy registered under the lovely confines of Manitoba Public Insurance. I checked with the MTO and you have a 2 month grace peroid when moving province to province to change your registration. That puts me till the end of June. I was wondering where you guys would recommend insuring my car, and what I can expect to pay. I know it sure will be a hell of a lot more than MPIC in MB.

Thanks

It might not be a whole lot more, what were you paying in MB?

I would just call around. Royal bank, Bel-air (you can get a quote online with them). Try www.kanetix.com m to get some quotes.

I have a group plan through work with Taylor group and I'm only paying $800 a year for the S.

Yeah, no big insurance expert here. Get a lot of quotes. Different companies have different discounts, so ask if they have any specials like:
- group insurance with work, or professional organizations (teachers, doctors, etc.)
- discounts when combined with house insurance
- discounts for "resposnible" professionals, P.Eng, doctors, etc.
- multi-vehicle discount
- theft derrent devices, like our chipped keys
- univeristy alumni programs

Oh yeah, read the fine print of the policy, because of the recent crackdown on street racers. State Farm has been known to void policies of modded cars, and some insurance companies might void insurance for people who do legal lapping and autocross.

I'll have to look around soon also, since I'm paying $1500 which didn't seem so bad compared to my '95 Integra with a $1000 deductible for $1000.

Wow that's a lot, looks like it should be cheaper here.... unless you have convictions.

Also to note my car is set as a second car for pleasure use.

that is for $200 dollar deductible...
Fire theft and vandalism...
$5,000,000 liability
and insured as all purpose which means daily driver (not that it is my daily driver) but pleasure in MB is only $500 cheaper a year and has strict rules.

Hmmm, I don't think you'll find that type of insurance here. I could be wrong.

Standard is $300-$500 deductible or more
I don't think you can get a lower one.

Fire theft and vandalism is standard, collision and upset obviously.

$1,000,000 liability is standard, I have heard from some you can't get more than 2 mil, I stick with 1 mil.

I'm not sure how strict "pleasure" is on my policy. But both my vehicles are pleasure.

1 is pleasure 24Km max to work, 30,000Km a year
the other is 5km max to work, 16K a year, My work drive is only 10Km.
