no doubt...I see some of the cars like 97's rusting out...back west they put way more sand on the roads so you don't see cars rusting out as early as here!

97's are rusting out because they don't take car of their cars.
Later model cars come sealed and undercoated pretty good from the factory. I drove my 98 Prelude thru 4 winters, and the techs here in Pembroke said it was one of the cleanest under carriage and engine bays they'd ever seen.
Why? I washed my car at least once a week, giving extra attention to the wheel wells and undercariage.
For the s2000, I only drive on residential streets, no faster than 50km/h. So I don't get those semi truck salt coatings you'd get on the freeway. I drive to work and back only, 14km round trip. Use the wife's civic for the longer hauls.
The engine bay is as clean as the first day I bought it, and after being under the car for 2 exhaust installations, the only rust is on my control arms. Everything else is spotless.

Simon...I agree with the fat that most of these goomba's with the 97's rusting out are people that probably wash their car maybe twice a year. I know people in Winnipeg like my brothers who wash their cars probably twice a week in winter. People with indoor parking lots especially because of the heat and salt mix together to speed up the process of rusting.
Simon, do you worry about hitting snow cookies from residential streets in Pembrooke?

I got just over 5" of rain at my place. I put a tote out on the sidewalk Sunday night, and Thursday night after it stopped raining here I had more than 5" of rain in that thing!

It wasn't that bad really. It just highlights the neglected home reno work that needs to be done. The worst part was the rusty junk in the furnace room -> rusty water -> new rust "antiquing" of the carpet.
