Southern Oregon Exploration drive
#26
I have a quick question about pace etc. is this more of a cruise along the back roads, or a good fun blast in the twisties? I haven't been on one of these before and although we are all amazing race car drivers whom are faster than Schumacher, many of our cars are vastly different in terms of power out put and suspension; I don't want to hold up a 400hp monster coming out of a corner in my stock powered S and ruin the drive for someone, so are there guidelines or words of advice? We all know that feeling when everything is wonderful and having a nice brisk drive only to come up on a tourist in a double yellow twisty section...

James there's no need to worry, the pace we set is within the backroads is more or less in line with the speed limit. The faster boosted cars are usually in the back as well as they cannot keep speed in the curves. The newer members usually hang in the back to continue at a pace that you feel safe and comfortable with. There is no pushing if you have a faster car behind you.

Id also like to add that if you feel more comfortable hanging towards the back of your group, there is no shame or judgements.
The drive leaders try to set a pace that is 1) legal 2) fun 3) capable for most drivers to handle within reason.
Addendum #1) If you find the pace too quick, pull over and jump in at the tail so you can pace yourself. We give out the drive plans that have all the timings, turns, major intersections/landmarks, pitstops, lunch locations and all necessary directions so if you do fall back, you will know where to go and where you can catch up.
Addendum #2) We also always try to impress people to be aware of their own abilities. Dont go faster than you can handle and if you DO find that you are falling back and holding up others, see Addendum #1
this particular drive has a decent chunk on normal roads/highways so speeds are within the posted speeds and/or flow of traffic. Some of the highways have good curves.
The one particular stretch that is the "point" of the drive is about 1-2 hours of the overall day.

Well lets see....
Saturday Weather:
Eugene - high of 86 - sunny
Drain - high of 88 - sunny
Reedsport - high of 75 - sunny
Florence - high of 75 - sunny
I think it's going to be a good day
Just a reminder folks - This drive is starting IN EUGENE. Make the necessary arrangements
Check your fluids, your tires, pack your sunscreen.
Also, this is one of those rare drives that does NOT have many pitstop options, so you may want to skip the morning coffee.....It will be several hours from start to first break.
