SoCal Boy wondering about relocating...
Hey guys,
I'm a big canyon-carving, track going S2ki fan from the SoCal forums. I love it out here, but am starting to feel like I need to get out. One of my choices is somewhere in Oregon.
One of my big 'needs' is the ability to quickly find canyons nereby and semi-close race tracks. Can everyone give me some ideas of what's out there??
THANKS!

For racetracks you'd need to be in the Portland area
Then you have Woodburn for a dragstrip, PIR for road/drag, and the new Oregon Raceway up the gorge near The Dalles
For canyons, well...there arent a ton of 'canyon' roads here, but there are a LOT of backroads to play in.
Just look at some of our past group drives to see photos/maps of some of the best. They are a couple hours from the Portland metro area though.
Look up Quartzville and McKenzie for two of the best.
We did both in one VERY LONG day last year as "the mother-of-all-drives". Each road is a twisty 40-60 mile stretch that will satisfy your need.

We have several winding roads over the coastal mountains in addition to what Sabre mentioned. It would also be nice to have another set of eyes looking for fun roads across the state.
But most of our good stuff is a bit of a drive from Portland/burbs. And it's not available year round. We get about five solid months in the middle with a debatable month on each end. Several of us have hardtops that stay on for four+ months of the year.
But the scenery is better. Life is less expensive. And the people are more down-to-Earth.
And we have the third most micro breweries in the nation.

Wow, tumbleweeds in 2.5 hours. Just so you're aware, the bulk of our group work during normal hours

As stated above - we are more active in the evenings.
There are some great mountain roads to see. We all have our favorites. I have a small list of roads that are 1 hr drive form my place or less and a list of ones farther away.
