New Favorite Road
As almost all of you know, the Ole MacK was my favorite road to drive with all the twists and turns and hairpin corners. The only down side are the inconsiderate drivers that we've had to share that road with that refuses to move over so that we can have our fun.
This last long weekend, Brad & I decided to take the long drive to San Fran, CA to visit some friends. Knowing that I get my jollies from twists and turns we decided to go down I-5 to Grants Pass, then had over to the coast and go down 101. At Leggett, he had me turn onto CA Hwy 1. OMG, 22 miles of hard twists and hairpin corners. Yes, you heard me right...22 miles! I had so much fun driving it. Brad turned a little red, then grey...it wasn't a pretty sight, but he made it without losing it. But the BEST thing about that drive was that every car that I came up on pulled over and let me pass...I'm LOVING those CA drivers.
We then went down to Fort Bragg via CA Hwy 1, then came back to hook up with 101 via Hwy 20...OMG, another 28 miles of twists and turns. And again, all these cars just pulled over to let me pass as soon as I came up on them...it was GREAT! And again, Brad turned a bit ashen, but he made it without hurling. Driving in CA was so much fun.
We went down as far south as Santa Cruz. Now I have the southern CA coast left to drive some time soon.
So much fun!!! Missed all of you over the Labor Day weekend, hope you guys had as much fun as I did.
Now...we just need to train all the WA & OR drivers to pull over on the twisties.

That reminds me of this road I ended up on just outside of Susanville, CA when I was driving my car home from Reno when I bought it. I don't think it was quite as long as what you describe, but the twisty's were amazing and every car was quick to get out of my way . I think it was about 5 miles north of Susanville on Highway 139 . The wife = a cross between these 2 by the time we found straight road

Funny you should ask.... I went to the paint store and spent $14 on a big roll of that blue tape the night before I flew out. I brought it all the way there with me and then said, ok ill just put it on when we get outside of Reno (we wanted to hit up the strip and check out a few casinos). I then forgot about it until I got to Bend to stay the night and my bumper looked like hell . The good news is I added the front lip and it covered up most of the permanent damage I did on the drive home
Amy did you run into any rock chips heading down there? No gravel right?

I've been down the California coast a few times now - it's been great every time. The only frustrating time I had was going east from CA-1 to US-101 on CA-20. The road looks amazing, but there was so much traffic that even if they had all been moving over I still wouldn't have gotten up to the speed limit for more than ten seconds at a time.
I had a good time on CA-96 northbound from Willow Creek up to I-5 just south of state line. And there are some good roads that connect with it along the way that I'd like to go back and explore.
Congratulations on finally getting to drive Highway 1. You're a member of that elite S2000 group now

Did that exact drive last year - second week of owning my S2K Staggering beauty and blast to drive. I was tailing a motorcycle the whole way, and I think he was bummed he couldn't shake me
