So, since we are going international, who is going to opt to have their Cell Phones on while in Canada?

I was just checking the rates for my phones, and from what it looks like, my cell phone is not going to be on once we leave the ferry terminal in Port Angeles, and will not be turned on until we arrive back in Anacortes. Roam charges are killers!

I checked that last night.
0.59/min for calls (Dont call me)
free texting (Text me all you want)
$4/mo for unlimited Intl. data (Yay for Pandora Radio) which I will just cancel when I get home

Do you have to roam on a Canadian system just because it is stronger?

You can see Port Angeles (and Seattle) from Victoria. Maybe you could still connect to a US carrier?

I wonder if the Black Ball Ferry people would know.....

It's unlikely you will get a signal from the States.

My phone is provided by my employer with full international unlimited phone, NO SMS even in the States, and discounted data while international. It will remain on and in full effect throughout the trip. Elizabeth's phone will be available for phone but probably not data. Though she did get a plan like Aaron mentioned for while we were in France / Monaco.

While in Canada your cell service provider will likely be Rogers.

From my past experience, US cash works most places in Victoria - they either accept it 1:1 or post two sets of prices. Paying to get Canada Bucks isn't entirely necessary. Most places will also take all the popular credit cards.

Thank goodness. If we have to give you wakeup calls and all, it's nice to know we can get through

And then going and volunteering your phone for people to use to make calls (in full effect!), so sweet!

Dont know if anyones mentioned it yet, but I know some banks can block card transactions out of the country. I just had to call my bank to make sure it wasnt an issue.
