Default Help, please...

Hi guys,
I was wondering if someone can help me with getting a hitch and a bike rack for my 2006 Honda Pilot. Currently I don't have a hitch on my Pilot and would like to get a bike rack since I've been carrying my bike most everywhere. But the bike rack that Honda has is a roof mount and I'm just too short for that. So the only thing that I can think of is to get a hitch and get a bike rack that attaches to the hitch. I don't know a thing about this subject, so does anyone have any ideas or know where I can go to get this done without it costing me a bunch of $$$.

Thanks,
Amy

http://www.handa-accessories.com/pilext06.html

Hitch Mounted Bike Carrier

For about $176, and near the half way mark of that link.

For what I can tell, they range from $150-250 brand new. If you are looking to spend less, I can start scouting FS threads for you. I like to scout for things when I have down time.

Thanks Brian, I saw the bike carrier, but I don't have a hitch on my Pilot, I called the local Honda dealership and they want way to much $$ for installing a hitch. But they were trying to sell me the towing package too, and I don't need the towing package. Any suggestions on where to get a hitch installed?

I just picked up a bike rack at GI Joes for super cheap this weekend and it says that you can mount it on the back of an SUV as well. Maybe check there? I don't know if the one I got will fit a Pilot though but it doesn't hurt to look I guess. Mine was only $40 on their super clearance sale.

Amy,

It really depends on what else you plan to do with that hitch in the future. i.e. towing trailers for your quads, boats etc..

I know often times, a cheaper alternative than just going through the dealership to install towing packages, are places like those "truck accessories" stores. They will sell and install for much cheaper than the dealer, and often time you get better quality stuff.

I'm sure there are some closer to you up in WA, but the only place I have had experience with is the Store next to Pho Hung in Beaverton. My dad had a hitch installed there for his minivan and it worked out pretty good for him.

yeah OEM hitch packages are big $

I'd check some RV stores, they probably install/refer people cuz they sell trailers. maybe some boat stores too??

try U-Haul, Amy...they sell and install hitches for reasonable price . You can also try thule.com or yakima.com for your bike rack for hitch and then just google for the cheapest place to get them. Hope this help.

Thanks Marc.

Anyone here have a hitch installed by U-Haul? I found a reasonable price from them, about $300 less than Honda without the tow package, which I kept telling them that I don't need. And $1200 less than the hitch with the towing package, that I keep telling them that I don't need.

Experience with U-Haul - Good? Bad???

that's a lot of money for just hitching a bike. . I don't have experience with U-Haul on installing a hitch on my car but I see a lot of SUV and pickup trucks getting their hitch done at U- haul right next to my work. So I guess they're on hitches.
