Default Happy Memorial Day!

Ok Ok, so this thread was mostly so I could show off....

I've been wanting to try my hand at some full on barbeque beyond just grilling steaks or burgers.
I've done ribs and they've turned out quite well, but it was time for one of the greatest challenges

Pulled pork!

There is a farm here in town that just opened a new storefront/butcher shop for their hormone-free/grass-fed meats.
I decided to try it out and picked up a nice 6lb pork shoulder that was fresh off the butcher block.

a home-made rub (seen on the right), some mesquite wood chips for the grill, 8 hours of slow cooking:

Jealous?

Looks really good Aaron. Did it taste as good as it looks?

Very nice specimen, Aaron! Looks great. It should be amazing. How easy was it to pull? You should be eating that for a week!

But, when you are ready to do some serious smoking, you need to get a Traeger. Low and slow is it's motto!

I wish I had more time to experiment, so many things it can do.. I have done pizza, scalloped potatoes and regular grilling on it as well. I almost don't have a need for an oven any more!

Bacon Xplosion on a friends Traeger.

Ribs slow cooking.....

Ribs done!

I don't have any pics of the Brisket I did in December, but it was amazing as well.

Arnie, it tasted amazing. Especially considering it was my first try.

Doug, it pulled really easy. Especially because I have a pair of these:

And yes, I know I need a Traeger eventually.....someday. I'm quite jealous of yours, but considering this was on a gas grill, I'm very impressed nonetheless

It is impressive, I wish I could try it! Last time I tried smoking on my gas grill, it didn't turn out anything like yours!

When I do my pulled pork, I am going to experiment with smoking it first, pulling it, then putting it in a crockpot with all the juices/sauce for a few hours, then putting it back on the Traeger.

Now I need to get home from work so I can do my Tri-Tip! I am starving and it is only 7:00AM!

Aaron, I am jealous. YUM! you could at least invite us over. Now I have to ask Sandi and I think I know the answer.

Now that I know I can do it and not have it taste terrible, I will happily invite people over

have you smoked burgers yet...awesome...especially w/ smoked bacon...

smoke them for ~45min@250 for a medium burger...make sure to use a dollop of your favorite BBQ sauce on top before you start or they will dry out a little too much...

I had about 2/3 of the shoulder left this morning.

Sliced half of that into strips for making french dip sandwiches. Finished shredding the rest of it for more pulled pork.
