Default Driving down to LA

Im driving down to LA for springbreak. I have heard the drive down 101 is really nice. But maybe dangerous this time of year?? Any thoughts on that? we are stayin on I5 till we get to Grants Pass then taking 199 to hit 101 after.
If you have driven that way, how was it?

Grants pass to 101 is an awesome drive for curves.....101 is a great road to have fun on. Tons of long curves. Used to drive that section all the time and loved every minute of it. If you run I-5 all the way down you will regret it. Such a boring Straight drive.

Steven, check out our thread from homecoming, some of the group took 101 down near the border and headed down;

It definitely is a LONG drive to do 101 so just be ready.

I did that drive 2 times in the past 3 years. Not in my S though. The trip that was most fun was when we took 101 instead of I5. For me it all depends on the time of day you are doing the drive. If it's at night, I would take I5 just because it's at night. I would take 101 early morning on a sunny day, or early evening on a sunny day! Have fun with your drive regardless.

I agree - Aaron, Doug, and I took 101 down to HC and it was an awesome road. It is what the S was built for.

I think the drive from Humboldt to LA on 101 is 40 miles longer in total. I've made this drive more times than I can count. The distance isn't really the problem... Highway Patrol is. They have a ton of speed traps on 101.

Driving on the 5 speeds of 80 are expected... On the 101 not so much. There might be a couple places on the 101 where the speed limit is 70.

Overall it's a speed vs. view type of situation like some one mentioned before. Going thru Ventura at sunset is a winner.
