Default 2024 Drive: SE Oregon - Friday August 30th - September 1st

Southeast Oregon Drive - Friday August 30th - Sunday September 1st 2024
Join Us for the last official drive of the 2024 season as we explore some new territory deep in the Southeastern corner of the state!
Drive time: 16 hours of driving including lunch/stops over 3 days and 750 miles
.
This is the one you don't want to miss. We're ending our 2024 Drive Season with a weekend long adventure filled with down time, amazing roads, rural communities and some country charm! This 3 day drive will begin Friday evening in John Day, Oregon, arriving at your leisure.

A group dinner and some down time with friends is on tap for Friday

Saturday is where the real fun starts, taking us on some scenic byways, high in the mountains and more curves than you'll find at a ... well you get the idea

At the end of our drive; we'll explore Baker City, enjoying a relaxed lunch and exploring the historic downtown.

Saturday evening, join us for taking in some history at the Kam Wah Chung State Heritage Site in John Day for a guided group tour at 4pm followed by a group dinner
A Chinese medical clinic, general store, community center and residence, Kam Wah Chung gives you an incomparable glimpse into the past. This remarkable site, a National Historic Landmark, is located in the town of John Day, and includes a museum and a separate interpretive center. The museum was built in 1865, possibly as a trading post and stage stop. This tiny, unassuming building became home to two Chinese immigrants, Ing "Doc" Hay and Lung On in 1888. Both became locally famous: Lung On as a general store proprietor and businessman, and "Doc" Hay as a practitioner of herbal medicine. For over 60-some years the building was a social, medical, and religious center for Oregon's Chinese community.

Lodging in John Day will on your own. A few of us have rented a vacation rental, we're hoping to host Friday and Saturday evening meals for the group but lodging wise; it is currently at capacity. Below are some loading options within the areaSunday we'll officially depart and make our own ways back to our homes!
