Everyone,

I have been delaying putting up too much information about this drive. There is a good reason. Currently, the Old McKenzie Hwy, Hwy 242, is still closed for construction. ODOT has stated that it is hoping to open it on the morning of July 4th. Their statement goes on to say that if it does open that we should expect construction activities to still be ongoing on the east side of the pass. I have been told that the pass could also only be opened up to Dee Wright from the valley side and we would have to turn around and head back the same way. And, finally they said that if they need to, they will keep the Hwy closed longer, possibly effecting the entire drive plan.

I am working on three or four options for this trip. Three of which will start in the Wilsonville area, and one that potentially could start down in Springfield. I will be in contact with Ira and Aaron about options once I know for sure the road status on July 4th. I know that is really late notice for those planning to go on this drive, but I want to hold out hope for taking our traditional trip up and over the pass. Do not worry, not matter what happens with the Hwy, we will be having a drive!

More details to come in the next few days and more information determined from ODOT.

If you have any questions/concerns, let me know!

Thanks,
Doug (Tual06s2k)

Let's put Ira in charge of bringing cookies and brownies to the start point!

Put me in for this drive. I'll also be with the eugene crew starting off in Eugene!

Also if you're part of the eugene crew we should meet up somewhere together

Updated! We’ll have a designated meet point for those in the Eugene area and timing for lunch if you’d like to meet there. Drive plan will be emailed out likely the evening of July 4th or morning of July 5th. As Doug noted; we’re waiting to see what routes/roads will be open by the 6th!

If Mac's still closed we could do the Alpine to Alsea falls to hwy 34 to Waldport. I drove it yesterday, hwy 34 is new pavement almost all the way to the coast.

Nice! Yah I know Doug has a variety of alternate routes lined up. I have a feeling the coast is going to be backed this weekend from people trying to beat the heat
