Red face 2010 Astoria-Beach Party Drive

...

Saturday morning was sunny and very pleasant when we met up for our departure.

Steve does some last minute touch-up to his very clean BB:

Two very classy blue cars:

And, we are off for our drive:

Heading out Hwy. 47 and 202:

At Jewell we make a pit-stop:

Something we don’t see often – three GPW’s side-by-side:

Then it is off to enjoy the twisties over the pass:

Some sections are a little "rough":

How many of you noticed the two deer (one spotted!) at the stop sign just before the roundabout?:

We head up over the bridge:

Larry and Aaron's group arrive at Dismal Nitch where we wait for Doug and Amy's teams:

Doug's team arrives:

Followed by Amy's:

Then the usual socializing:

Doug leads all four groups out of Dismal Nitch:

And we head down a very busy Hwy. 101:

Exiting the tunnel afer making (ahem...) a bit of noise:

And continuing on:

At Nehalem Beach State Park we make our final pit-stop:

Amy leads us on our final stretch:

A string of 24 S2000s was pretty impressive as we made our way south:

One of the many traffic frustrations of the day - The big Garibaldi Days Festival which put a major crimp in our schedule:

Finally we get to the beach:

And set up for an enjoyable afternoon of hot dogs, S'mores and comaraderie:

Dave even gets a well-deserved backrub from Janice after a grueling day of driving:

Thanks to all who attended and making this one of our nicest drives.

Welcome to Jim and Deb - we hope to see you again!

See you next month for our big McKenzie Pass Drive: Here
!

Thanks to everyone who went on the drive. I had a great time as always. Chris had an awesome time on the drive and enjoyed getting to meet everyone.

McD's was so excited to see us they had ballons ready for us.

I have a stalker.....

Chris was nice enough to take photos while I drove. Some of the below are mine and some are his.

First stop in Jewell.

The first group pulling out......
Look at that flat cornering!

I only ran the video cam while driving the bridge - here are 2 vids one on the way to Wash. and one on the way back to OR.

Home!

Dont really have many pics to share. I'll post em up tomorrow.

Today seemed to have a theme of people driving way over the yellow line. I followed a guy in a truck hauling a big trailer down from Hoodoo and on one corner he was over the yellow COMPLETELY. Totally new lane.

Glad you made it back safely, and I wanted to say a special Thanks to whoever said to watch for cops comming down the big hill in forest grove Don't remember who said it. We crested the hill I slowed down and let a minivan and a kia pass me and sure enough there was a cop with radar hiding on the side of the road looking up the hill.

Funny/BS part I was doing the speed limit 55 and both cars that passed me were doing over 70 and he didn't pull them over, but I'd bet a million if I was the one going over 70 he would have pulled me over in a heartbeat.
