Default 2009 Oregon Caves / Redwoods Drive - pics

...

Saturday - Portland to the Oregon Caves

Our day started at Shari's for breakfast. Aaron was so excited about this drive that he and Shonda arrived an hour before our scheduled time! (repercussions are in store for him from Shonda).

...

Preparing to leave on our trip:

...

Aaron is ready to hit the road:

...

We headed down I-5 for our first pit-stop:

...

Doug and his son (and future S2000 driver) Jacob:

...

Makes you wonder who is having the most fun:

...

We arrive at Tolly's in Oakland for lunch:

...

...

Lunch at Tolly's:

...

"Lactose-Intolerant" Brian has ordered a milkshake - 1/2 vanilla and 1/2 chocolate. Here is what he got:

...

How do you mix them, you say?

...

Marc & Rachel enjoy a big banana split:

...

We leave Oakland to return to I-5:

...

On the way to Grants Pass we make an unscheduled stop for a photo-op at the Graves Creek covered bridge. That's "Paparazzi Paul" teetering on the guardrail, taking our photos.

...

Easily the most fun part of this drive was the twisty road from Caves Junction on up to the Chateau at the caves:

...

It was a great way to end the driving day after 4 or 5 hours of boring freeway driving.

Amy ripping through the curves:

...

At the Chateau, the staff had set aside parking for us - and did their own photo-shoot for an upcoming brochure and their website:

...

After checking in we headed over to take the tour of the caves.

While the rest of us are learning about the caves and their history, Amy and Doug entertain each other:

...

And, on into the chilly cave - Looking a little like a cheesy movie set from "Journey To The Center of The Earth":

...

Some of the unusual cave formations:

...

...

...

...

Down a steep ladder:

...

Following the tour the group did some hiking up on the mountain and had a close-encounter with a group of deer.

Then after a short rest we enjoyed a leisurely dinner in the Chateau dining room:

...

Then it was off to bed to get some rest for Sunday....

Gonna also use this post as a placeholder.

Marc, I am amazed you were able to get through that traffic and catch me by Salem. How'd you like being chased by that civic with the *adhesive stuck-on* "vents" on the *door*!

I laughed so hard at that.

That accident on I5 was crazy. Figues our side was clear and only backed up thanks to gawkers.

Shonda and I had a great time evryone! Pics to come.

I was actually want to use the bathroom and in hurry to get to the next rest area. Yeah! that accident was pretty bad..... hope that person on the driver side survive. And yeah! that civic aka M3 style was very funny and saw him exited with me on the rest area and still i can't believe what he's done to his civic . Anyways, me and my wife had such a great time and love every moment of it and also it was great meeting all my s2000 friends again Thanks so much Larry and Aaron for an excellent planning....everything was just perfect. I'm still on the verge of charging my two exhausted batteries of my cameras....so more pics to come later.

Larry and Aaron, thank you very much for organizing this trip. The road up to the Chateau was wonderful. Paul and I kept commenting to each other how great it was that our CO's were nice enough to arrange all the new pavement that we drove on. The roads were amazing with so much new pavement EVERYWHERE.

I had a great time and would like to thank EVERYONE for the wonderful birthday gift. Great to see everyone and spend some great times together.

It was great to meet Chris & Amy. Hope you enjoyed yourselves and hope to see you very soon.
