*next* sunday's drive - May 24th
The plan for our next impromptu drive is in the works.
Sunday, May 24 for those who want to join:
Leaving Portland for the start *PDX people will have to arrange the meet point* and heading south on I5, picking up extra people along the way from Salem, Albany, Corvallis and Eugene before heading up some back roads out of Springfield and eventually merging with Hwy 126 to head up the McKenzie corridor.
We will have lunch at Takoda's in the 2-second town of Rainbow.
Leaving there, we will head up a short twisty section of McKenzie River Rd and then cut over to Forest Service Rd 19 which runs along side Cougar Reservoir.
Following that road until it ends in Oakridge/Westfir where we will head up Old Military Rd opposite the river from Hwy 58. We will eventually cross over at Lowell and re-merge with Hwy 58 before meeting back with I5 at Goshen and following it back up to Portland.
Estimated 8 hours of driving from Portland to Portland not considering breaks/lunch. Reststops will unfortunately be "as we find them" because I have no idea what we're getting ourselves into.
A map of the round is HERE
Those that are interested in going should post where they will be joining AND a good meet spot right off I5 to make it easy to be added to the caravan before jumping right back on the freeway.
We can work out the join times as we finalize things. Departure time will probably be 9ish from Portland for lunch around noon.

after double checking the route, it appears that it will be closer to 9 hours total.
About 3-3.5h till lunch, so that would get people back to portland by 6-7pm, give or take if we keep the start time at 9.
I'd say if people met a bit before 9 and was already on the road making their way south by 9, that would probably be ideal.

That wouldn't be a bad idea, Abhi.
Also everyone remember that it will be Memorial weekend.
That means people all over the place, TRAFFIC and COPS!
We'll have to be extra good on the main roads.
The entire McKenzie corridor is very popular during the summer with camping, fishing, boating, etc so there will be lots of campers and others about that we will need to be watchful for.
