I am not happy
Was starting up the car, on my home from work. Put the top down and heard a *snap*.
The top folded incorrectly and cracked the plastic window. About a 3 inch tear straight down the middle.
I was thinking I'd eventually replace the top down the road (like a year or two from now) because there are a couple small rips in the cloth. I saw a couple s2ki'ers got glass window tops for their 00-01's from cabrioworld.com and had good results.
I've been trying to save money though cause I hope to move to CO at the end of the summer.
I really hate to do it, but I'll probably just tape it up for a while. So ghetto

Bobo.. Sorry to hear about your misfortune. That sucks...
If you must tape then....
Use clear packing tape, then tint rear window with "static" tint. You'll be the only one that knows until it is fixed properly.
Several DYI's available and takes less than 20 minutes. Need help, send me a PM.

the only problem is even though I taped mine up, it will keep bending the way it did to make it break. So if I were to tape it up, and tint it, it would just look worse creasing the tint in every which way. But that might just be mine, its hard not to notice. i might as well just get a whole new top.
But on the other hand, when I do get a new top, and if I do go with a new plastic one, I will definately tint it because that looks awesome.

Regardless of if the window cracked or not, something in the top frame is making it fold the way it is folding. Do your straps still have elasticity in them? If not, a simple $12 fix will take care of that.
You may also want to try a rolled up towel and lay it in the wind as it is folding. This will "Shape" the fold back to normal

true. I already ruined my back window with all the tape i've put on it for the past month or so. I'm going to go ahead and get a new plastic window and top and tint it and use the rest of my money to save up for a cf hardtop.
BTW-when my top is up the is no elasticity(sp?) in them. They are as loose as a...make up your own ending!

So are you going to do the clear packing tape + static tint method that 8BALL posted above? If so, I'd be interested in seeing before/after pix. That may be useful to other 00-01 owners in the future.
The only reason I can think of is the fact that the plastic window is bigger than the glass window. Therefore, blind spots are minimal.

Why would you buy another plastic?
