Default Volunteer Opportunities

Every year, I try to participate in a different philanthropy. Last year, I adopted a family who was "in line" for a Habitat home, and took them through the process of becoming qualified etc, and was pleased when I was able to hand them the keys to their new home recently.

Was sitting in the car today thinking about what I could do next, and came to the conclusion that I would like to help a soldier/ wounded soldier, or a soldiers family in any capacity necessary.

After spending quite a bit of time on-line tonight searching for an organization which would make this possible, I came up empty handed.

Do any of you you know an outlet for such volunteer opportunities, or have any suggestions as to how I could find such a thing?

Thanks!

You'd think googling volunteer opportunities with soldier's and soldier's families would bring up a plethora of sites? Just show's you how skewed priorities are in this country (ala trampling of the Wal-Mart worker to save a few bucks).

I'll let y'all know what I find.

Heather has been doing this for 2 years. I help sort and mail. Every box has to be gone through to weed out forbidden materials like pornography.

She and her partner received close to 3,000 boxes this year. I have a ton in dining room ready to be mailed.

I'd love to help with that effort as well. Could you put me in touch with Heather, Rich?

Thanks

I talked to her last night about needing help and for this year they've gotten a ton of new volunteers. They'll need help starting in the middle of next year for Christmas 09 though.

mainly you just can't receive: pornography (magazines like Maxim & such are allowed) & alcohol & liquids
