Default Turn in an '04 for '09?

My friend received a letter from Honda reminding him that his lease is up and that he has to make a decision on his '04 GPW Ap2. I think some of you actually met him at the Solon Car Show and at Mid Ohio.

He wants another s2000 but is torn on keeping his car and trading it in for something else. I did some checking, and no one out there will make a deal like Monty got an '08 CR btw.. (I did ask around)..

Thoughts?

I'd find a nice left over 08 CR

time to hunker down. We are going straight into depression. Unless ofcourse your friend don't work for his money.

Whatever the residual is knock of at least 5k or give it back. BMW offered me 10 grand off the residual of my X3 I am turning in next month.

Agree w/Andy, cash conservation is king right now.

So what walk to work or ride a bus ?

If this is his only transportation;Dave's idea is a good one

If he has an 03 or newer DD then I'd suggest turn it in and wait till summer ;however the poll question was 04 for 09?

If his 04S is way under mileage for the lease, it may be worth more than the residual. Assuming he wants to keep his S, I say research the market value for an 04S and use Dave's tactic to negotiate the buyout.

However, it it was me, I'd want the CR for its rarity and its more race inspired setup.

I voted for turning in the 04 and buying the CR, strictly from a car enthusiast standpoint.

That's because that thing was about $12k overpriced when you bought it.

100%. Unless your friend's job situation is REALLY secure, this is the best plan.

He's in a very secure job position... His garage keeps his daily driver inside as well.

I'm assuming he knows what you mean by lowering the residual (I don't know what all that means), but if the buyout on a lease is say $15,000 isn't that a fixed price and non-negotiable? I think he's under 40k for his S2k.. It was driven in the winter a handful of times but it has, for the most part, sat in the garage once he realized RE050s don't like the snow..
