I have to confess.....I've done it before. However.....I have realized the err of my ways.

Seriously.....why are there laws against cell-phone usage but not texting? People are perfectly capable of talking and driving...but you cannot look at a device and type out a conversation while driving.

I have almost been run off the road numerous times this weekend by people texting, mostly on the highway. I'm sick of this, it needs to be banned. It is more dangerous than speeding or drunk driving.

But the penalties in most places that ban it are a joke.

Would you tolerate 'drunk driving" as a "secondary offense" meaning that they couldn't stop a driver for being drunk but only add it on as a secondary charge after stopping them for something else? Would you tolerate a $25 fine for drunk driving.

 

I am guilty of doing it, and I have had some close calls. I agree it should be banned with larger consequences.

 

It should be banned nationwide. If caught doing it they should take a hammer to your cell phone on the spot!!

Well, here is the next question... with phones being able to do so much, is it playing with your phone or just texting?

Like what is the difference between texting, messing with your ipod, or messing with your portable gps?

All hand helds that distract you from driving... it would suck not to be able to use any of that while driving.

The Droid I have does have a nice voice->text feature that I sometimes use while driving, otherwise I just fire up the bluetooth and call.
