Germain grows via purchase of Immke Northwest Honda
Tuesday, August 31, 2010
... One of the region's largest auto-dealer groups has just gotten bigger, as Germain Motor Co. has bought Immke Northwest Honda on Sawmill Road in Dublin.
This is Germain's first Honda franchise in central Ohio, bought for an undisclosed amount from Lucas Auto Group.
"It is a successful store with a tremendous reputation, and we consider this to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," said Steve Germain, company president, in a statement.
His company will take over in the next few days and plans to retain the roughly 100 employees and to continue to use the Immke Northwest Honda name, he said.
"It's a heck of a store, and I think it will be a good fit for us," said John Malishenko, Germain's director of operations.
Germain has 19 dealerships in central Ohio, Florida and Arkansas. In acquiring the Honda store, it adds one of the five most successful dealerships in the region in terms of new-car sales, according to Autoviewonline.com.
To promote the acquisition, Germain plans a sale over the Labor Day weekend.
The Immke family started its auto business in 1963 and opened the Honda store in the late 1960s. Lucas Auto, a locally owned company, bought a stake in the dealer group in 2004 and eventually became the sole owner.
This is the second sale between Germain and Lucas. In 2007, Lucas sold its Cadillac dealership next door to the Honda dealership in Dublin.
Immke Honda was Lucas' only remaining new-car dealership

Come to think of it, I can't say I've seen or heard of a Germain acquisition being a good thing for consumers.
My experiences: Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford and Lexus.
Their sales staffs have been pushy and unknowledgeable.
But hey, mo money, mo money, it's the American way!
