Default royal purple dyno results

Just so you all know i have a friend with an S in sacrament and he did a dyno before and after switching to royal purple oil. I know alot of you thought i was full of shit but he just like the miatas on racing beat.com proved my point. His gain was 3.7 horsepower to the wheels! Royal purple says on their site that small displacement high reving motors can expect a 1-3% power gain. His gain is between than 1 and 2%. I have been proven right!

I'd agree that this is a fairly small change and doesn't really sound conclusive (assuming you could provide dyno charts). Also, you left out what kind of oil was in his car during the "before" dyno? Conventional oil that had seen 7500 miles? Or brand new Mobil 1 or Redline?

This weekend, I did an interesting comparison. The test car used was a 99 Ford ZX2 and I used the ass-dyno to compare Amsoil Series 2000 0w30 and Redline 5w30.

I first changed the old Redline in the car out and replaced it with Amsoil 0w30 and immediately noticed a difference. The idle was a bit more choppy, and not as smooth, and there was more engine harshness than before with the old oil which had racked up almost 6500 miles on it. After driving it around, I had it changed back to Redline 5w30, and it was just as smooth as before and the butt dyno said the acceleration was smoother, although I don't think it was faster. Since the Amsoil Series 2000 0w30 costs $8.30 a quart, I saved it and I guess i'll use it to change the oil in my mower in the spring. Redline costs $7 a quart.

I know this is off topic and has nothing to do with Royal Purple, but what oil did he compare the Royal Purple to? If he gained 3%hp with Royal Purple, the gains are going to be much smaller or even nonexistent when compared to other premium synthetics out there like Redline.

Out of curiosity, how many miles was on the regular conventional oil before he changed to Royal Purple? Almost any car out there is going to gain horsepower when you change the oil out. If he had more than 1000 miles on the old oil before he switched over to Royal Purple, this will not be an accurate test at all. However even if the old dino oil was brand new, it still wouldn't necessarily be accurate since dyno's can be off as much as 2% from run to run. What really get's me, is that Royal Purple's street oils are not even fully synthetic, but are a synthetic blend utilizing a petroleum base stock with thier Synerlec additive.

Threads like this accomplish nothing. You might as well argue with a brick wall because that is what will happen here. It doesnt matter how many miles were on anything a 1.54%(3.7hp) is inconclusive on anyones dyno and a waste of everyones time here.
