I'm with Gary on this one. If i had to go out and buy a daily driver tonight, i'd find a R32 (a 2008, though - but i haven't seen one under 25k yet).
I know you said no Subies, but the Saab 9-2x is a bit more posh than a WRX.

Take it from a former owner; Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe, AWD. Excellent ride, reasonable handling, practical, comfortable, Toyota reliablilty, dirt cheap, 25mpg in town, 29-30 on highway.

And best of all, absolutely no acceleration whatsoever, so you'll never question the need for the S2000

I LOVE my Subi Legacy GT. It is so far removed from a WRX.....extremely luxurious, user-friendly, great ergonomics, fun to drive, fast, practical, reliable, awesome in snow.......
